Local government staff voted two to one (66%) in favour of the 2020/21 salary allowance, which will apply to England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The NJC for local government services has 70 members: 12 on the employer side and 58 on the union side. In July, UNISON members in the fields of education and local government, who have contractual terms from the NJC, voted to accept the employers` final offer of 2.75%. It was the best that could be achieved through negotiations. National employers have issued COVID-19 guidelines: “Our dedicated local government employees have kept our services running throughout the pandemic and we will continue to fight for them and the services they provide. Strengthening our local councils and communities will be crucial in the future and we need the Scottish Government to invest in our local services and key workers to deliver them. On October 27, 2021, the 2021 Fall Budget and Expenditure Review announced that public sector workers would receive “fair and affordable” wage increases throughout the 2022-23 expenditure review through 2024-25. The amount of the salary increase has not yet been decided. The NJC has published guidelines on national restrictions in England.
